Coronavirus Made My Life Easier As A Muslim Woman — Here’s Why

Face veils, niqabs — they look very oppressive, don’t they?

Walking down the streets and getting unusual looks is not new for me. I’ve been wearing the niqab for over six years and I’m quite used to the “look.”

From men trying to stare into my eyes, or women asking me, “did your husband force you to wear that?” I get it all.

However, this year was unbelievably life-changing. I mean, the Coronavirus had a huge impact on the entire world and everyone’s lives, but for Niqabi women, it brought a change that we have yearned for years.

What is a niqab?

A Niqab is a face veil (pictured above) that Muslim women wear to cover their faces apart from their eyes. They wear a face veil because it is seen as an act of worship that is pleasing to God. It is not seen as a compulsory act of worship that Muslim women have to do, unlike the Hijab. (Hijab is the headscarf women wear to cover their head which shows their face. See below.)
